With the purchase of new Ricoh printers and consolidation of all printing operations at our headquarters in Spartanburg, SC, we have made a major investment in providing you with a state-of-the-art print center. The goal is more printing options provided with greater flexibility.

Printing of utility bills and tax notices was formerly divided between Spartanburg and Columbia, SC, with each location printing about half of the 4.2 million pieces generated yearly. With the August 1 consolidation, the company is keeping decades of staff experience and enhancing it with sophisticated new equipment. The facility even includes lighting designed to mimic daylight that helps provide true color in prints.

Customers should experience a seamless transition to the new print center, but with new options for forms and other professional-quality printed materials, such as flyers, brochures, information cards, and newsletters. The large, modern printers can generate up to 130+ pieces per minute.

Recurring Tax Payments

Recurring tax payments was added to the Business License and Occupational Tax applications in Service Pack 12. This feature allows you to accept hospitality or payroll tax payments on a recurring schedule. Recurring tax payment codes can be set up on a monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly basis.

The recurring tax payment schedule lets you keep track of the hospitality or payroll tax payments per year. For many of you, fall marks the end of a licensing year. Recurring tax payments can be implemented in the application at any time; however, the beginning of a new year is a good time to set up recurring tax payment codes, rates, and penalty and interest schedules.

Coming Soon: Tax Filtered Searches

In response to customer requests for features to make your business run more smoothly, we added filters to the Tax Accounting System searches in Service Pack 13.

This new feature allows you to filter tax notices by Record Status, Property Type, Tax Year, and Refund status. The Record Status option allows you to display tax notices that are Paid, Unpaid, Errored, or Nulla Bona. Property Type allows you to display only Vehicle, Real, Personal Property, or Other tax notices. The Tax Year filter allows you to only see notices in the tax year specified, and the Refunded option includes or excludes refunded notices.

For example, you could filter out Paid Vehicle records for 2015 or any specific combination you choose.

Employee Spotlight: Lelar Lawter

Having joined QS/1 on June 19, 2017, Lelar Lawter is the newest member of the QS/1 Governmental finance support team, but that doesn’t mean she can’t assist you at the highest level. After over one year of hard work, dedication, and serving our clients, Lelar recently received her Level 1 certification for our Utility Billing software. This certification takes months of practicing, studying, and working in the software to achieve a level of mastery. While her growth within the team is commendable, we want to tell you more about Lelar outside of her role.

Lelar was born in Seattle, WA, but eventually moved to the Upstate of South Carolina where she has lived for over 20 years. She has been married to her husband Chris for 11 years and they have a 10-year-old daughter, Lilly. Lelar began her college studies at the University of South Carolina, Upstate, and finished her career with a degree in Information Management from Greenville Technical College.

In her free time, Lelar loves reading, especially suspense, thriller, or science fiction. She also enjoys traveling and hiking, and her favorite place to visit is her home town of Seattle. Additionally, she considers herself quite the “foodie” and loves taking the opportunity to try new dishes. 

When asked what she likes about working at QS/1, Lelar said, “I love working at QS/1 because I get to work with an amazing group of people, and I find being able to research/solve issues very satisfying.”
